What We Know
Nearly thirty years after Emma Thompson's Oscar-winning adaptation brought the Dashwood sisters to a new generation, Sense and Sensibility is getting a fresh take — and the team assembled is hard to argue with. Director Georgia Oakley made a quietly devastating debut with Blue Jean, a film praised for its emotional precision and restrained power. Screenwriter Diana Reid is an acclaimed Australian novelist making her film writing debut. And leading the cast is Daisy Edgar-Jones — one of the most compelling screen presences working today — as Elinor Dashwood, with Esmé Creed-Miles opposite her as Marianne.
Austen's first published novel follows the Dashwood sisters as they navigate love, loss, and financial precarity in 18th-century England — Elinor through quiet reason, Marianne through passionate feeling. It is a story that has never stopped being relevant, and with this cast and creative team, the 2026 adaptation looks like one to watch. Principal photography began in the UK in July 2025, with UK release set for September 25 and US release for October 16, 2026.
