"Yours Truly wrecked me in the best way. I came for the enemies-to-lovers banter and stayed for the emotional gut-punch I absolutely did not see coming. Abby Jimenez never misses."

Synopsis

Dr. Briana Ortiz is having a year. Her divorce is nearly finalized, her brother is running out of time to find a kidney donor, and the promotion she's worked toward is almost certainly going to the insufferable new doctor who has already maxed out her patience. Everything is set for a full-scale rivalry.

Then Dr. Jacob Maddox sends her a letter. A genuinely good one—funny, disarming, and nothing like the person she'd decided he was. Before Briana quite knows how it happened, they're exchanging notes, sharing lunch in her designated sob closet, and debating the merits of miniature horses. Jacob is quietly, frustratingly wonderful, and the walls she built are coming down faster than she'd like.

When Jacob makes a gesture so unexpectedly generous it reframes everything—offering to be a kidney donor for her brother—Briana has to confront what she's been trying not to feel. Yours Truly is Abby Jimenez doing what she does best: wrapping something genuinely emotional in a romance that's warm, funny, and impossible to put down.

Our Take

Abby Jimenez has a gift for grounding romance in real emotional stakes, and Yours Truly is one of her most effective examples. The enemies-to-lovers setup is familiar, but the letter-writing conceit gives the relationship a slower, more deliberate build than the genre typically allows. Jacob and Briana get to know each other on paper before they figure out how to be around each other in person, and that structure pays off. By the time the feelings arrive, they feel genuinely earned.

What elevates this above standard rom-com territory is the weight Jimenez gives to Briana's circumstances. The brother's illness isn't a backdrop—it's a pressure that shapes every decision Briana makes and raises the emotional cost of every scene with Jacob. The humor lands because the tenderness underneath it is real.

Readers who loved Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez or The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren will find this a satisfying fit. Also a strong pick for fans of Beach Read by Emily Henry. A Spicy Saturday selection with more heart than heat—though there's plenty of both.
