Flashlight

by Susan Choi

One summer night, ten-year-old Louisa and her father walk out to a breakwater. He is carrying a flashlight. He cannot swim. She is found on the beach alone, barely alive. He is never found. Spanning decades and continents — from postwar North Korea to the American Midwest — Susan Choi's monumental new novel traces the shock waves of one family's catastrophe through memory, loss, and the invisible currents of history.

Dominion cover
Southern FictionDebut Novel

Dominion

by Addie E. Citchens

In Dominion, Mississippi, Reverend Sabre Winfrey runs his church, his businesses, and his community with an iron hand. His youngest son, Wonderboy, is the town's golden child — until a single encounter sends shock waves through everything his father built. Told through the eyes of the women who love these men, this debut novel is a taut Southern family drama about the everyday violence of the patriarchy and the women who quietly, and not so quietly, push back.

The Correspondent cover
Literary FictionDebut Novel

The Correspondent

by Virginia Evans

Sybil Van Antwerp has spent her life writing letters — to her brother, her best friend, Joan Didion, Larry McMurtry, and one person she writes to constantly but never sends. When letters from her past force a reckoning with one of the most painful chapters of her life, she realizes the letter she has been writing for years finally needs to be read. A gem of a debut novel about solace, connection, and the quiet miracle of a life lived in language.

The Mercy Step cover
Literary FictionDebut Novel

The Mercy Step

by Marcia Hutchinson

Bradford, December 1962. Mercy arrives into a chaotic household that has no real place for her — a mother consumed by the Church, a father with a quick temper, siblings who don't understand her. She finds solace in books, imagination, and her faithful toy Dolly. As the grip of family, faith, and fear tightens, Mercy learns she must act if she wants any future at all. A sharply witty and tender portrait of a young girl's quiet rebellion.

Kingfisher

by Rozie Kelly

A creative writing academic becomes dangerously infatuated with a colleague — a poet who has everything he wants and nothing he can name. As his obsession grows and his relationship with his partner Michael begins to fracture, simultaneous illnesses force him to confront what he is capable of taking from another person. A hypnotic debut novel about grief, power, desire, and the tangles between them.

Heart the Lover

by Lily King

In her senior year of college, Jordan falls into an intoxicating triangle with two brilliant best friends — Sam and Yash — and finds herself at the center of something that will alter all three lives forever.
