Our Take
Carley Fortune's Every Summer After worked because it gave the relationship between Percy and Sam room to breathe — six summers of slow-building friendship, tension, and eventually heartbreak, all rendered with the kind of unhurried emotional specificity that makes readers genuinely invested. Adapting that into eight episodes is a real challenge, and the mixed reviews suggest the series doesn't entirely solve it. That said, Sadie Soverall and Matt Cornett have real chemistry, the Barry's Bay setting is gorgeous, and Amy B. Harris — who wrote for Sex and the City — understands how to write romantic longing. If you loved the book, you'll find enough here to make it worthwhile. If you haven't read it, this might be the push you need to pick it up.
