Our Take
Season 1 of Rivals announced itself as one of the great guilty pleasures in recent television — a knowingly preposterous, deliriously fun adaptation of Jilly Cooper's 1988 novel that somehow also managed to be genuinely sharp about power, ambition, and desire. Season 2 picks up exactly where it left off, with all the hairspray, scheming, and spectacularly bad behaviour intact. The fact that it scores 97% on Rotten Tomatoes while featuring a horse in pink legwarmers says everything you need to know about what this show is and how well it does it. If you haven't watched Season 1 yet, this weekend is the time. If you have, you already know what to do.
