Our Take
Catherine Ryan Howard's novel was a product of its moment — a pandemic lockdown thriller set in Dublin, where two strangers move in together out of necessity and discover the relationship is built on more secrets than either of them is ready to admit. The series transplants the story to Boston and strips out the pandemic backdrop, which loses something, but the core premise — the forensic reconstruction of a romance that ended in a body — translates well to screen. James Wan produces through Atomic Monster, which explains both the stylish visual approach and the genre instincts. It's not a great series, but it's a genuinely watchable one, and for eight episodes that drop all at once, it's exactly the kind of thing that disappears a Saturday afternoon before you've noticed what happened. The book is a faster, tighter experience if you want to go to the source.
