"Hilarious, swoon-worthy, and surprisingly heartfelt—I devoured this book in one sitting and immediately wanted more."

Synopsis

Reformed bad witch Grizelda "Zelda" Watson fled to sunny California hoping to never encounter another vampire again. After centuries of vampire drama and nonsense, she's had enough. But when a gorgeous, amnesiac vampire named Peter Elliott shows up on her doorstep with a letter from her old friend Reggie, asking for help, Zelda finds herself unable to refuse. It doesn't hurt that Peter is tall, looks fantastic in yoga shorts, and has exactly the kind of dark hair and brooding expression she's been weak for throughout her very long life. Peter may be fanged, but he seems harmless enough—and he quickly becomes the only person in Zelda's new life who knows her supernatural secret. His only clues to his lost memories are cryptic notes scrawled in his journal, and if Zelda can help him decode them before sending him on his way, she figures she might as well try. But when an alarming message from Peter's forgotten past arrives at the same time Zelda realizes she can't keep running from her own history, they embark on a chaotic cross-country road trip in search of answers. What they discover along the way is that sometimes the thing you've been searching for has been right beside you all along.

Our Take

Road Trip with a Vampire is pure escapist joy—a zany, heartfelt paranormal rom-com that never takes itself too seriously while still delivering genuine emotional depth. Jenna Levine has crafted characters who feel both supernatural and wonderfully human. Zelda is centuries old but relatable in her desire for a fresh start, and Peter's fish-out-of-water confusion as an amnesiac vampire provides endless comedic opportunities. The chemistry between them crackles from their first meeting, building through witty banter and forced proximity into genuinely steamy moments that earn the "spicy" label. What elevates this beyond typical paranormal fare is Levine's ability to balance laugh-out-loud humor with touching emotional beats about identity, belonging, and second chances. The road trip framework keeps the pacing lively, and the mystery of Peter's past adds just enough intrigue to propel the story forward without overshadowing the romance. Fans of The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling and A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness will find much to love here, though Levine's tone skews lighter and funnier. Perfect for readers seeking paranormal romance that's equal parts hilarious, hot, and heartwarming.
