An imgur user named Jerry posted to the site his incredible story of moving into his new home. In 2015, Jerry moved into a home where the previous owner passed away. It was sold as-is and desperately needed a makeover. As a first-time home buyer, this place was the perfect fit for Jerry. The secrets that were in that home were just waiting to be released…
Cleaning The Place Up
After two weeks of moving everything in and starting some renovations, Jerry moved his attention to the unfinished basement. He claimed that it was “pretty full of junk†and needed to clear it all out for his belongings. Apparently, the previous owner didn’t have any family to take these things, so it was up to Jerry to move it all himself. A lot of things were left behind… More than meets the eye.
A Secret Room
As he was cleaning it out, he noticed a sheet of plywood against one of the cinder block walls. He immediately recognized that this was out of place and pried it off. That’s when he discovered the gigantic hole in the wall… and another room.
Jumping To Conclusions
There were boxes, crates, and tiny pouches littered in the small room. He had to grab a flashlight to look around and see what was really going on in there. It almost seemed like a bunker… But Jerry was confused. How come this wasn’t cleaned out? Is it possible that the old man kept this a secret, even in his death…
Shock and Awe
“At this point, I am a little shocked, and a little scared,” Jerry wrote. Obviously, he had to go inside! He climbed through the small hole and entered a 4×4 room. The first thing he noticed was the gun cases stacked on top of each other, which were empty. That’s when he saw the sentry safe…
What Should He Do?
It was an extremely intimidating find. “I really don’t know what to do about this. Should I try to contact the old man’s children and see if they know anything about the room and if they want any of the items? OR I could try to get the safe open?” It’s almost unethical to open this safe… And, what if he finds something that he really, really didn’t want to find?
Doomsday Items
Since the safe was sealed shut, he decided to investigate the room further. That’s when he found hundreds of live rounds of ammunition. They were all in unlocked cases, obviously stored away by the previous homeowner for some reason. Jerry couldn’t tell if this was a collection or some type of bunker…
Anticipation
There were many large army-style bins that all held items like the ammo that he found. At this point, he was exhausted and decided to really tear that room apart in the morning. He was so curious as to what possible treasures he was sleeping right over…
Military Grade Weapons
The next day, he was hit with the reality of what he was really up against. He climbed back into the room to investigate the copious amounts of boxes and crates that were scattered all over the room. Upon further investigation, he realized that most of the boxes and crates were all military grade… Why would some old man have all of this military stuff? He knew that he had to open them up, but he wasn’t prepared for what happened next.
This Wasn’t A Collection
Even the loose items, things that weren’t hidden away in boxes or crates, were marked with military phrases. There was an empty rifle case that said, “Civilian Marksmanship Program,” which meant that the owner knew how to use these guns… Something wasn’t sitting right with Jerry. These weren’t just collections. The owner was using them… Then, he opened the creates and his stomach dropped.
More Ammo Is Found

Tons and tons of pennies! What in the world was this man doing with all of these pennies? They had to be worth something. They were obviously worth hiding for some reason, but Jerry couldn’t figure it out. His concern was growing as he was trying to think about why this man would be hiding all of these things.
Reasons For The Pennies
Many preppers – people who like to be prepared for the collapse of society because war or disaster – don’t just stockpile ammo in secret rooms. Some also like to save pre-1980s pennies, which were made of copper, to use for trade in case of the complete devaluation of the dollar.
Now, The Safe
Lastly, his attention was back to the heavy duty safe. It was too heavy to move, so he was going to have to crack the code from within the room. He even went to the extent of using his father’s tools to try and pry it open… He was hoping that it was so old, it wouldn’t even hold.
Failed Attempts
Unfortunately, he failed it open it. Jerry spent way more time than he wanted to on it, he admits, so he went to call a locksmith to help out. That’s when things took a crazy turn.
Locksmith Time
Jerry updated the thread, saying the locksmith was coming that Monday to try and open it up. He said he would obviously update the thread as it garnered a lot of traction. Everyone was excited to see what was inside! If this homeowner had his guns and ammo and copper out in the open, what was the locked away secret?
Going Missing
That was the last they heard from Jerry for over two years. People began to speculate. Something definitely happened to the young homeowner… Something bad. People in the thread began to speculate about his disappearance.
Speculations…
Some say he got the safe open, found a ton of cash, and ditched the thread. He didn’t want people to know what he got! Others say that this thread gave him unwanted attention and that he probably posted something he shouldn’t have… Little did they know that their ‘fun’ speculation was much closer to the truth.
Jerry’s Return
Finally, after two years, Jerry returns. “UPDATE. If anyone remembers or cares,” he titled the post. Jerry then delves into a horrifying story of crazy things happening to him after the posts went viral. It forced him to go into hiding from imgur for years before he was comfortable enough to come back on to tell his harrowing tale…
Scary Things Were Happening
“First off two days after posting the story a group of three very strange looking people rang my doorbell. I couldn’t think of that they could want, so I did not answer the door. They waited for about two minutes then got in their car and left. The next night something startled me and woke me up. Seconds later my dog started to growl. Then it sounded like something either hit my house, or someone knocked on a door or window. This frightened me a lot. But then the scariest thing happened…”
Were They Coming For Him?
“Two nights later my neighbor’s house was broken into. Maybe it’s just pure coincidence, but I’m not too tech savvy and thought maybe there was some sort of way to track down where a post came from??? I was really scared for a while. The part that made me the most confused is that my neighbors couldn’t find anything missing, but it was apparently obvious the house was searched. Maybe just maybe they were looking for something specific.”
And Lastly… The Safe
The last part Jerry says is… Well, he’s not going to reveal what was in the safe. Jerry says that he’s paranoid about it, and that he moved out of that house and doesn’t want to subject the new owners to what he experienced. When it’s all said and done, there are now more questions than answers. What was really happening with this old man? The world may never know…
